N.J. Turnpikes $10B widening project gets new opposition from New Yorkers

The Manhattan neighborhoods that now bear the brunt of Holland Tunnel traffic from New Jersey joined Jersey City and Hoboken residents in telling the Turnpike Authority not to widen an elevated highway that they say will bring them even more traffic.

The New Yorkers, representing the Chinatown, Soho and Tribeca neighborhoods already congested with tunnel traffic, said the New Jersey Turnpike Authoritys planned Hudson County extension widening proposal is counter to New York Citys efforts to reduce congestion.
