The first time that many of us had heard of non-binary Department of Energy official Sam Brinton was when he was charged with stealing a woman’s suitcase full of expensive female clothing at a Minneapolis airport. (No, I am not going to refer to Brinton as “they.”) That case hasn’t been fully resolved yet, but now the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Spent Fuel and Waste Disposition has been accused of heisting another woman’s suitcase full of clothes at a Las Vegas airport. We seem to be detecting a pattern here. It would appear that Brinton has an affinity for very high-end fashion but would prefer that other people pay for the outfits. (New York Post)
A Biden energy department official who allegedly stole a woman’s suitcase from a Minneapolis airport in September has been accused of another luggage heist at a Las Vegas airport.
A felony warrant on grand larceny charges was issued for Sam Brinton, the deputy assistant secretary for spent fuel and waste disposition at the Department of Energy’s Office of Nuclear Energy, 8 News Now reported Thursday.
Brinton, who made history as one of the federal government’s first gender-fluid officials, allegedly stole luggage from another traveler at Harry Reid International Airport in Vegas on an unknown date, according to the outlet.
Assuming this allegation is correct (and why wouldn’t it be?), Brinton’s activities seem to be falling into a pattern. But what was the Biden administration expecting? When you turn the Department of Energy into a clown show, you’re going to wind up with some clowns.
The first suitcase heist gave us a fairly good look into Sam Brinton’s modus operandi. He’s never denied taking possession of the woman’s suitcase, but he did try to insist that he had simply mistaken the bag for his own. A casual examination of the evidence shows how that was a lie on par with a child claiming that they didn’t take the cookies from the cookie jar while their face is covered in crumbs.
First of all, Brinton didn’t even check a bag for the flight in Minneapolis, so he shouldn’t have been looking for one at the baggage claim area. Then, surveillance video reportedly shows him removing the tags from the victim’s luggage. Who rips the tags off of their own baggage? Later, he was seen wearing the designer clothing when he was out on the town. Even if the incident at the airport had been an honest mistake, surely he would have realized it was the “wrong bag” when he got home and examined the contents. It was a theft, plain and simple, and now he’s trying to lie to avoid the consequences.
Brinton was already suspended from his position at the Department of Energy after the first incident, but he’s technically still part of the administration. How much embarrassment will the Biden administration tolerate before Brinton is given his walking papers? Seriously, people. Is this really who you want to be in charge of the safe disposal of spent nuclear fuel rods?
