A majority of registered Republican voters and those who lean Republican—58%—said the United States should be supporting Israel in its current conflict with Iran, according to a new Napolitan News National Survey. Twenty-four percent of Republicans and Republican leaners said the U.S. should not support Israel or Iran in the conflict.
Registered Democrat voters and those who lean Democrat polled were much more divided over the conflict inflaming the Middle East. Just 32% said the U.S. should support Israel, while 36% said America should support neither country. Meanwhile, 11% said America should support Iran, which has been accused of supporting terrorists who ended up killing or injuring U.S. personnel in Afghanistan.
The polling by the Napolitan News Service was conducted Monday and Tuesday, and surveyed 1,000 registered voters. It comes as the United States contemplates escalation in its support for Israel in the Jewish state’s conflict with the Iranian Islamic regime in Tehran.
President Donald Trump has called for the “UNCONDITIONAL SURRENDER!” of the Iranian government on social media, and the American Israel Public Affairs Committee has called for the U.S. to help its longtime ally Israel.
“The Administration and Congress should ensure that Israel has the resources and support needed to defend itself from any Iranian response,” AIPAC said in a statement released on Wednesday.
In total, just 8% of those polled said the U.S. should support Iran in the current conflict with Israel, while 31% said we should support neither side.
Less than a majority of all American voters polled said the U.S. should be supporting Israel in its current conflict with Iran. Overall, 43% of voters said the U.S. should support Israel.
At the same time, 77% of those polled said that if Iran had a nuclear weapon, then it would pose a serious threat to the U.S., and 45% said it would pose a very serious threat to America. Some 83% said it would pose a serious threat to Israel.
