One Year Ago: Jake Sullivan Said Middle East Was at Peace

As I write this Israel is defending itself from hundreds of Iranian ballistic missiles, Israeli troops are in Gaza and Lebanon, and thousands of Arabs and Israelis have died.

A year ago, the Harris/Biden administration bragged that they had the Middle East under control and at relative peace.

These clowns make Neville Chamberlain look like a foreign policy genius. They get. Every. Single. Issue. Wrong.

Every one. If something catches their attention, they make it worse.

Jake Sullivan, Biden’s National Security advisor, who is likely to remain if Kamala Harris becomes president, wrote a piece published in Foreign Policy (print edition) that emphasized how great Biden’s policies were in the Middle East. On the website, posted after 10/7, they had to rewrite the whole thing.

Simply put, the administration could not have been more wrong. And because they were so wrong, the Middle East is literally on fire.

The Harris/Biden team emphasizes that they have been giving Israel aid–fitfully and with conditions that make the situation worse–but they have not taken responsibility for how their weakness created the conditions for all-out war.

We often hear about civilian casualties, which are indeed horrific, but the fact is that the Harris/Biden policies have dragged this war out for a year when it could have ended with victory if Biden and Harris weren’t always pushing for Israeli restraint. Restraint does not win wars, reduce casualties, or make peace more likely.

It drags wars out. Look at Israel’s lightning strikes against Hezbollah, which have reduced casualties while bringing dramatic successes so far. This Iranian strike, however much it might hurt Israel at the moment, is a last-ditch effort to strike back at Israel as it devastates Iran’s proxies. Israel knew this was coming, prepared, and the costs will likely be much lighter than the benefits.

Iran’s strikes appear not to have killed any Israelis, at least, that is the news so far. One unfortunate Palestinian was hit by part of an Iranian ballistic missile.

You can rest assured that if Israel strikes back, the cost to Iran will be much, much higher.

We don’t know if Israel is going to strike back, although it seems likely. Whether that means that there will be a cycle of escalation, we can’t predict at this time. Iran is playing a dangerous game, and is walking itself into a buzzsaw.

We can’t tell the future, of course, but the future looks a lot brighter for Israel than its enemies.

This is all, unfortunately, due to the weakness of the current administration. None of this was happening under Trump, and there was a reason for that. He stood with our allies, was crushing Iran’s economy, and everybody was afraid to tick him off.

Nobody is scared of Joe Biden or Kamala Harris. Why would they be?

Look back to see how we got here. Jake Sullivan’s bragging in September of last year–days before the horrors of October 7th, tells you why we are here.

The liberal internationalists don’t understand power. And this chaos is the result.
