In the wake of the controversy surrounding the Los Angeles Dodgers’ decision to invite, disinvite, and then re-invite the anti-Catholic drag nun group Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence to receive the Community Hero Award at Dodger Stadium on Pride Night 2023, several California Democrats decided to go full bore with their support of the group. Never one to shy away from something perverted, State Sen. Scott Wiener invited the group – and one “Sister” specifically – to Sacramento for the Capitol’s pride ceremonies Monday.
Republican legislators spoke out against the invitation, as our Brittany Sheehan covered Friday, but of course they were ignored, and “Sister Roma” was indeed honored at the California State Capitol.

As Sen. Wiener walked Sister Roma to the front of the chamber, the announcer read:
Sister Roma has been one of the most outspoken and globally recognized members of San Francisco Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence. From fighting on the front lines of the war against HIV/AIDS to creating the “Sisters Stop the Violence” campaign, to taking on Facebook as the creator of the My Name movement, Sister Roma has dedicated more than half of her life to community service, activism, and fundraising. Welcome, Sister Roma.
When that fundraising takes place at the Folsom Street Fair, where naked men walk the streets and give (and receive) blowjobs (WARNING: NSFW link) in front of children, where bondage gear for toddlers is sold, and where the Sisters for decades have worked the gates in exchange for receiving a portion of the proceeds, which they then use in the “community service” of normalizing these behaviors, is that really something we should be celebrating and honoring at the state capitol?

There were “little-kid-sized mannequins in baby blue and girly pink leather hoods, gas masks, and, of course, pacifier ball gags.”

Regarding this honoree specifically, as Brittany reported, “Sister Roma,” whose legal name is Michael Williams, “is a porn director who runs a podcast that reviews pornographic movies.” Longtime Sen. Shannon Grove (R-Bakersfield) referenced Williams’ profession in her statement last week denouncing Sen. Wiener’s invitation:
John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” California has over 12 million self-identified Christians that believe this to be true. The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence claim to promote pride and inclusivity, but mocking Jesus our Savior, misrepresenting Catholicism, and promoting and directing porn with Jesus as a main character is sacrilegious and disrespectful to millions of devout believers. Inclusivity of a group of people should never come at the expense of degrading and marginalizing another group—especially when it comes to an individual’s set of beliefs.
Wiener has been, by far, the most destructive politician in California when it comes to legislation protecting children from groomers. But, as was demonstrated Sunday when Los Angeles County Supervisor Lindsey Horvath posted a video of herself dancing with a preschool-aged boy who was attending West Hollywood’s Pride parade – in which one float carried two men who were engaged in a choking-and-whipping S&M performance – he’s got some competition.
