The California Capitol in Sacramento was evacuated Thursday morning because of a “credible threat,” the California Highway Patrol (CHP), which manages security at the site, reported.
The threat was reportedly tied to a shooter who had fired shots in Citrus Heights and outside a Kaiser Permanente hospital in Roseville on Wednesday night—and who had also made threats against the Capitol.
The Sacramento Bee described the shootings:
The gunfire at the Roseville hospital struck the side of the Women’s & Children’s Center building, but no injuries were reported. Authorities have said nobody was struck by gunfire in either incident as authorities launched a manhunt for the suspect, who was identified by multiple law enforcement agencies as Jackson Pinney, a 30-year-old from the Bay Area.
About 8:45 p.m. Wednesday, the Citrus Heights police received a call from someone inside a business asking for police to respond to investigate a murder; then the phone call was disconnected
Witnesses at the Citrus Heights business told officers the caller drove away in a gold-colored truck and fired several rounds as he left the parking lot, the Citrus Heights Police Department announced about 11:30 a.m. Thursday in a news release. Nobody was hit by that gunfire.
Two of the shots fired at Kaiser Permanente hit the building. Although no one was injured, the hospital was placed on lockdown, which was later lifted.

The CHP also issued a statement:

KCRA reported that the suspect, who should be considered armed and dangerous, is still on the loose:
Officers are still working to locate the suspect, identified as 30-year-old Jackson Pinney, of Hayward, and his associated vehicles. One vehicle is described as a 2002 tan or gold Ford F-150 with a California license plate number 6V04299, and the other is a 1996 white Acura Integra with California license plate 6FWU532.
Normal operations resumed at the capitol around 10:30 a.m. The suspected shooter has had previous brushes with the law, and had been arrested in 2021 on suspicion of shoplifting and resisting arrest.
Lawmakers did their best to improvise, as Chief of Staff to Senator Angelique Ashby (D-Sacramento) Katie Hanzlik tweeted:
