WATCH: Melissa Joan Hart Holds Back Tears as She Tells How She Helped ‘Little Kids’ Flee Nashville School Shooting

Americans and their families across the country continue to reel from the shooting on Monday at Nashville’s Covenant School, a private Christian elementary school, as more details poured out Wednesday from first responders and local officials, who continue to investigating what led to the tragic slaying of three adults and three children.

One of those families affected by the event was actress Melissa Joan Hart’s, whom many know best from her role as “Sabrina The Teenage Witch”–a family-friendly sitcom that ran from 1996 to 2003, which garnered Hart three Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards.

According to Mediaite, Hart is the mother of three kids, ages 10, 15, and 17, with her husband, Mark Wilkerson. She took to her official Instagram account to share her emotional story of what happened Monday. Any parent can relate to the mom’s emotions—and why she chose to share it a day later instead of right away.

In a comment on the Instagram post, Hart explains why she held off from sharing her story, saying it “was too raw to post yesterday [Monday] but wanted you to hear this story.” Although Hart’s children don’t attend Covenant, it turns out that because their kids happen to attend a school nearby, she and her husband were right in the area in the wake of the shooting.

Watch as she tells the story, below:

She says:

For those of you who know I live in Nashville, and what’s been going on here today:

My kids go to school right next to a school where there was a shooting today. We moved here from Connecticut, where we were in a school a little ways down from Sandy Hook [Elementary School]. So, this was our second experience with a school shooting with our kids being in close proximity.

Luckily, we are all okay. But my husband and I were on our way to school for conferences, and luckily, our kids weren’t in [school] today.

At this point, Hart tries her best to hold back tears, as she continues:

We helped a class of kindergarteners across a busy highway. They were climbing out of the woods, they were trying to escape the shooter situation at their school.

So, we helped all of these tiny little kids cross the road and get their teachers over there, and we helped a mom reunite with her children.

I don’t know what to say anymore. Enough is enough.

After a pause, she ends her video by fervently urging viewers to “just pray. Pray for the families.”

Her remarks model how to approach what’s a fresh and heartrending tragedy for families right now. Whatever her political slant at other times, Hart chose to take the high road here and asked for prayers. Democrats and their Hollywood friends could bear to take some notes.

Continue to pray for everyone in Nashville, including the families of all of the kids, teachers, school employees, and law enforcement officials. They need it now, more than anything else.
