Jill Biden: Competency tests for old politicians are ‘ridiculous’

CNN heavily promoted its prime-time special event, “Jill Biden Abroad,” which aired Thursday night. During the interview, Jill Biden dismissed the idea that politicians 75 years old and older should take competency tests. The idea was brought forth by GOP presidential primary candidate Nikki Haley. Jill’s response was to tell the interviewer to look at the great job Joe Biden is doing.

Well, she has to say that, she’s his wife. She probably believes it, too, as she is the top handler of the president. She sends Edith Wilson vibes. The mantra from other Democrats is that Biden is doing a great job and getting things done. Haley had Biden in mind when she proposed a competency test for elderly politicians. Trump would fall into the category, too, but his mental competency isn’t questioned as Biden’s is. While Jill Biden continues to say to American voters that Joe is vigorous and fit for the job, we see a different person.

It is clear that Biden went to Kyiv to show bravery and a level of energy that allows him to make such a trip.

As the Bidens prepare for a possible 2024 presidential campaign, the first lady pushed back on concerns about her husband’s age, citing his recent travel schedule as reflective of his stamina.

“How many 30-year-olds could travel to Poland, get on the train? Go nine more hours, go to Ukraine, meet with President (Volodymyr) Zelensky?” she said. “So, look at the man. Look what he’s doing. Look what he continues to do each and every day.”

Most 30-year-olds would have the physical stamina to do that trip. What is she talking about? Does anyone think he didn’t rest, maybe sleep, on that train so he could meet with Zelensky and walk through the city as air raid sirens were staged to go off and show how brave Biden was to make the trip? She is as detached from reality as he is, it seems.

One problem for Joe Biden is that he doesn’t look like he’s working “each and every day.” He has spent over 40% of his presidency out of the White House on time off. He heads out of the White House on Friday afternoon and doesn’t return from Delaware or Camp David until Monday afternoon. He barely has a four-day workweek. He hasn’t released a list of visitors to his homes in Delaware, his staff say there is no list, so it’s hard for them to prove he’s working there. Trips to the ice cream shop and answering a couple of questions about his favorite flavor of ice cream don’t count.

Jill coyly says that running for re-election is Joe’s decision to make. Right.

“It’s Joe’s decision,” she said. “And we support whatever he wants to do. If he’s in, we’re there. If he wants to do something else, we’re there too.”

Pay no attention to Jill’s handprints left on the back of his jacket. She is pushing him because she’s enjoying the ride. She isn’t fooling anyone.

First lady Jill Biden did not hesitate when asked if there was any chance her husband would not run for reelection in 2024.

“Not in my book,” she told CNN in an interview Saturday during a five-day trip that saw her visit Namibia and Kenya. “I’m all for it, of course.”

Joe Biden is frustrated that he isn’t getting credit for legislation passed during his term in office. If he can’t articulate his message, how can he blame anyone for voters not knowing what he has been doing? That is part of his job, a job he isn’t up to doing. Biden has chosen a group of surrogates to spread his message to voters and get the word out about his alleged successes. This is an admission that he doesn’t have the energy to get out and do the work himself, right?

Biden aides said some Democrats are still being asked to join the effort, but they have already enlisted more than 20 national figures. They include such influential governors as Gavin Newsom of California, J.B. Pritzker of Illinois, Gretchen Whitmer of Michigan, Wes Moore of Maryland, Josh Shapiro of Pennsylvania and Phil Murphy of New Jersey.

Some of the recruits represent the party’s left flank, with which Biden has had a mostly friendly but sometimes uneasy relationship, including Sen. Elizabeth Warren (Mass.) and Rep. Ro Khanna (Calif.).

It sounds like Joe plans to campaign from his basement in Delaware again. It’s also an admission that Joe knows he needs help. He is very unpopular and most Democrats don’t want him to run again, though some will say they will support him if he runs. The real problem for Democrats is that they do not have a solid bench of potential presidential candidates to offer as an alternative to Biden. And absolutely no one wants Kamala Harris to run.

CNN is doing its part for Biden’s re-election campaign efforts. As he gears up to make it official, they aired a complimentary look at Jill’s trip to Africa. I’m sure it won’t be the last.
