Florida Dems Elect Gubernatorial Primary Loser Nikki Fried as New Chair

There’s election news out of the state of Florida with only an indirect connection to Florida Republican Governor Ron DeSantis. The state Democrat Party held a meeting Saturday to elect a new chair.

Politico reporter Gary Fineout reported on the breakdown of how the vote would work:

He also shared the “votes are weighted with large counties having more votes than small counties,” and that “[c]andidates are being allowed to speak for 3 minutes each.”

Then three candidates spoke, one to remove his name from contention and endorse Nikki Fried:

The third candidate also, essentially, endorsed Fried:

Now, the Democrat Party has announced the winner:

The tally on Fried’s win was 52 percent:

Fried spoke after the win:

In her remarks after winning Fried says “You better believe we are going to take it to Ron DeSantis every damn day” and work to keep him out of the White House. She adds they are going to “send Rick Scott” home to Naples in 24

That’ll be a neat trick, indeed. Though Fried seems to have strong words, especially against DeSantis. Readers might recognize Fried as the Democrat gubernatorial primary loser to Charlie Crist in August 2022. DeSantis went on to soundly defeat the Democrat in the midterms, 59 to 41 percent. As the Democrats are slow to learn—actions matter, not just words.
