Rapper Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, attacked Ben Shapiro, editor emeritus of The Daily Wire and host of “The Ben Shapiro Show,” in a tweet Sunday afternoon that promoted a smear from a left-wing activist organization.
The attack from Ye comes after he dined with former President Donald Trump last week with white supremacist and Holocaust denier Nick Fuentes. The meeting generated widespread backlash against Trump from across the political spectrum.
Trump has issued multiple statements since the dinner, and has claimed that he did not know who Fuentes was before he arrived at Mar-a-Lago with West. According to Trump, he was only trying to help Ye, whom he described as “a seriously troubled man.”
Shapiro responded by writing on Twitter Sunday morning, “A good way not to accidentally dine with a vile racist and anti-Semite you don’t know is not to dine with a vile racist and anti-Semite you do know.”
Ye took a screenshot of Shapiro’s tweet and included a screenshot from a blogpost by far-left Media Matters that tried to generate a fake controversy by highlighting that Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) was paying to run advertisements.
“As he gears up for a potential 2024 showdown with former President Donald Trump, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has enlisted a leading right-wing outlet for advertising: Ben Shapiro’s Daily Wire,” the screenshot of the top of the article stated. “The Republican governor paid over $100,000 since last year in fundraising expenses to the site, which has aired commentary supporting DeSantis over Trump.”
Ye tweeted, “Shapiro starvingly accepts $100,000 from one of my opponents then tries to trash me.”
Shapiro responded, “Sadly, you’ve trashed yourself. You didn’t need my help. It wasn’t me. It wasn’t the Jews. It was just you.”
Jeremy Boreing, co-founder, Co-CEO and god-king of The Daily Wire and host of popular podcast Daily Wire Backstage, also responded to Ye’s tweet, writing: “We’ve accepted far more than that from your opponents.”
“DeSantis has rented our lists. Trump has rented our lists,” Boreing added. “Virtually every major Republican figure has rented our lists at some point. Stupid argument.”
