One of the quickest ways to annoy a liberal is to not care about the thing they care about. That fact was apparent on Friday’s CNN This Morning as co-hosts Don Lemon, Poppy Harlow, and Kaitlan Collins whined about three Jeopardy! contestants collectively blanking on Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson as an answer to a question over a week ago.
In a segment that featured other questions worded in an unfortunate manner, Collins brought up this moment from last week where contestants Amy Schneider, Tyler Rhode, and Maureen O’Neil stood there in silence as none of them knew the answer:
KEN JENNINGS (Host): She’s the first black woman on the Supreme Court and the first justice to have been a federal public defender.
[Silence]
[Buzzer]
JENNINGS: That’s Justice Jackson. Ketanji brown Jackson.
Immediately following the video, Lemon scoffed at the contestants while Collins tried to cut them a little slack. “I don’t think that’s that surprising. I will say. A lot of people don’t even know who’s on the Supreme Court,” she said.
“It’s just that these are smart people,” Lemon countered. He argued that the average American could be dumb enough not to know who Justice Brown Jackson was but these intellectuals should. “I think Kaitlan’s right. If you’re standing outside of a mall or whatever and people may not know, when they do the man-on-the-street thing, yes. But when you’re smart enough to be a contestant on Jeopardy,” he whined.
Collins came around to Lemon’s way of thinking, adding: “You’ve got to know about current events to beat Jeopardy.”
Harlow’s reaction seemed much angrier than her colleagues. “She was just confirmed, right?! She’s been in the news,” she huffed. “And history-making ones.” That chide was in reference to contestant Amy Schneider who’s the first transgendered Jeopardy contestant and champion.
It’s really silly for them to come down this hard on the contestants. Especially considering that their CNN colleague Wolf Blitzer had one of the most embarrassingly infamous appearances on the show.
In 2009, Blitzer took part in a Jeopardy: Celebrity Invitational where at one point he commanded a score of -$4,600. One question was “5-letter word that refers to an economic crash and the fear-driven rush to sell.” And Wolf answered “What is a crash?” when the answer was “what is a panic?”
This whining about the contestants was made possible because of lucrative sponsorships from Cadillac and Tempur-Pedic. Their contact information is linked.

LEMON: When you go on Jeopardy.
POPPY HARLOW: She was just confirmed! Right? She’s been in the news.
LEMON: But listen, if you’re standing outside – I think Kaitlan’s right. If you’re standing outside of a mall or whatever and people may not know, when they do the man-on-the-street thing, yes. But when you’re smart enough to be a contestant on Jeopardy.
COLLINS: You’ve got to know about current events to beat Jeopardy.
LEMON: Yeah.
COLLINS: Maybe not be successful on Jeopardy.
HARLOW: And history making ones.
LEMON: Yeah. [Pause] Yeah. [Pause] Yeah.
HARLOW: All right.
